Art teacher Wendy Kragt has a creative side to her that is fed by tackling decorative home improvement projects. For the past 20 years, she’s relied on a wide variety of products from Daich Coatings to help her transform different areas of her home, her parent’s home and a rental property her family owns.
“I’m actually addicted to the durability and freedom to be creative with the Daich Coatings products,” says Kragt, a resident of Zeeland, MI. “These DIY products give me the ability to be creative and make my house different than what is mass produced.”
Spreading Her Creativity
Kragt first discovered Daich Coatings about two decades ago when she was searching online for a product to help fix a crack in her laminate countertop. She wanted something creative and affordable. Her search brought her to the SpreadStone™ Mineral Select Countertop Finishing Kit. The three-step system in the kit allows people to roll on shimmering mineral accents to existing countertops, transforming them. After creating her own wall tiles for a backsplash and finding success with this countertop project, a year later she covered her vinyl linoleum kitchen floor with a blue SpreadStone™ Floor and Wall Coating.
So impressed with her floor endeavor, Kragt later followed it up with installing SpreadRock® Granite Stone Coating, an actual layer of spreadable rock, on her basement floor. After that she installed SpreadStone on her daughter’s bedroom floor. In a rental house she creatively used SpreadStone to make a “tile” floor in the kitchen, hallway and bathroom.
Concentrating on Countertops
Having re-covered many floors, Kragt was ready for a different challenge. She went back to the SpreadStone Mineral Select Countertop Finishing Kit and updated both her parent’s older countertop and then the countertop in her home.
“The price makes it affordable to change my kitchen every few years if I want,” says Kragt. “This time I went with an Onyx Fog color. We also redid the backsplash and hardware for a new look.”
Contest Grand Prize Winner
Indeed Kragt remained happy with her kitchen for a few years … until 2020 when she used SpreadStone to turn the kitchen floors grey. And then, in 2024 when Daich Coatings introduced the Marble Dream® Resurfacing Kit, the crafty homeowner knew she was ready for another change.
