$299 DIY Countertop Kit Completes Professional Kitchen Remodel

Sad-looking. That’s how homeowner Anthony Schultz described his kitchen countertops after major water damage from leaks above his kitchen required a big remodeling project. There was a tear-out of flooring, ceiling, walls and some cabinets, but new countertops were not in the budget. Fortunately, he was able to come up with the $299 for the LuxROCK™ ULTRA Solid Surface Granite Kit.

“After the money we had to spend on repairing several parts of the house that were not covered by the insurance claim along with our deductible, the cost of new countertops was not in the cards for us,” says Schultz. “In researching various coating methods, like painting, tiling, other faux-marble or faux-granite options, it seemed like Daich Coatings had the better reputation and happier customers. It also sounded like the Daich LuxROCK™ ULTRA coating would hold up better over time.”

With that thought in mind, Schultz invested in the Carrara color kit. He then reviewed the written and video instructions several times.

“Everything was really well labeled in the kit,” says the New Jersey homeowner. “That helped with the step-by-step process of getting it all done in a relatively short amount of time. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being very hard to do and 10 being an absolute breeze, I’d rate this project a 7.”

Tips for a Successful Project

For others resurfacing their countertops with LuxROCK ULTRA, Schultz offers the following suggestions:

Tip #1: Tape off everything with blue masking tape beforehand!

Tip #2: Don’t be shy with using drop cloths to protect your floor, sink and
appliances.

Tip #3: Buy extra sandpaper and use a sander with a vacuum attachment.

And, when sanding the stone layer, swap out the sandpaper for fresh paper frequently.

Schultz was pleased with the cost-effective end result of his project. He got real stone elegance without the real stone price. “We especially like how well LuxROCK ULTRA worked in fixing the flawed seal in the old Formica® countertops,” says Schultz. “We did the project in 2024 and the countertops still look great. They’re easy to clean and it was well worth the DIY elbow grease involved in the project!”

For the transformation of the kitchen countertops, Schultz won a Runner-Up Prize in the manufacturer’s national 2025 “Show Us Our Countertops” Contest.
