Leigh Loyd loves to play on the floor. Which is surprising, since the artist studied fabric design for her art major in college. However, once she discovered the joys of faux finishing with real stone finishings, she was hooked.
“I love to pick out colors, make samples and figure out glazes for unique concrete surfaces,” says Loyd, owner of Loyd Artistic Finishes out of Macon, GA. “My husband Josh and I tackle everything from outdoor porches and pool decks to indoor basements and retail flooring spaces. Sometimes I do ‘faux rugs’ on concrete floors that are really beautiful.”
Loyd discovered SpreadStone™ pre-mixed stone coating from Daich Coatings many years ago. It’s her favorite “go to” product to achieve all her concrete flooring designs. The product presents the appealing look of natural stone or ceramic tile, at just a fraction of the cost of the real thing. We use multiple layers that give us a good texture, strong traction and exceptional visual appeal.”
Unique Results
Tackling up to five different SpreadStone flooring projects a year, the husband-and-wife team focus on ventures in the central Georgia area. Recent projects for Kerri Moore Interiors and Mike’s Golf Carts (both in Perry, GA) showcase the couple’s talents.
“I like to layer at least three colors to give dimension to a flooring project,” says Loyd. “If I’m doing only one color, I usually do a glaze or wash to give the piece some movement. The SpreadStone is exceptionally easy to work with and each of our flooring pieces over the years has turned out completely unique.”
