5 Ways to Add Curb Appeal to a Home

HAMILTON, ONTARIO – August is the perfect time for homeowners to take a good look at their home exteriors and make improvements. To commemorate National Curb Appeal Month, experts at Daich Coatings offer five unique ways to improve the exterior of a home.

“Curb appeal enhancements add value to a property,” says Peter Daich, president of Daich Coatings. “Whether you’re getting ready to sell or staying in your home for many years, improved curb appeal makes a big statement to friends, neighbors and potential buyers.”

Do-it-yourself real stone coatings that transform ugly, cracked concrete are essential for increasing curb appeal. Developed by Daich Coatings, there are a variety of DIY products that can upgrade the look of walkways, steps, driveways and porches.

Project #1

For the authentic look of tile or natural stone, the SpreadStone™ Decorative Concrete Resurfacing Kit is a complete solution. A specialized applicator for achieving stunning decorative results is included, making it easy for anyone to apply.

Currently available in five color finishes, including Lake Rock, Cold Gold Slate, Midnight Slate, Sun Ledge and Summit Grey. The versatile pre-mixed SpreadStone real stone coating resists cracks, impact, abrasions and chemicals. The product rolls on easily over a primed seamless or stenciled surface. After the first coat dries, a second coat in a different color may be applied to create a unique color distinction.

Project #2

SpreadRock® provides an elegantly authentic speckled granite coating ideal for porches, steps, walkways and entrances. The coating can be spread on with an easy trowel application on both horizontal and vertical surfaces. The bonding technology and real stone composition ensure solid adhesion, superior flexibility and dependable durability for both interior and exterior projects.

New colors of Mocha, Anvil and Ice Grey join the existing color options of Brownstone, Flint Grey, Sandstone and Sante Fe. Like other Daich Coatings product, SpreadRock resists rain, snow, salt, chemicals, mold, mildew, UV light and hot tire pickup, along with excessive heat and bitter cold temperatures.

Project #3

Porches, walkways and steps benefit from easy-to-apply RollerRock®. Requiring no primer, the real stone coating comes in 15 colors and provides a clean, speckled stone appearance. A Stone Texture Roller helps any homeowner achieve a rustic, textured stone anti-slip surface. Two coats of RollerRock are recommended about three to four hours apart, followed by a clear sealer the next day.

Project #4

Terrazzo™ can also be applied with a Stone Texture Roller and requires no primer and, in many cases, no sealer. The lightly-textured decorative slip-resistant formula is fully pre-mixed and comes in ivory, tan or grey. For those desiring a sealer, the Terrazzo finish should dry for 24 hours. Then either Hi-Build Ultra or TracSafe Anti-Slip Sealer may be applied.

Project #5

For homes where driveways and concrete finishes are in good shape, keep them that way with DaiHard® Garage and Concrete Sealer. The clear coat sealer resists hot tire pick-up, ultraviolet rays, stains and chemicals. The satin sheen finish provides a durable topcoat that seals in concrete surfaces.

“For more than 20 years we’ve offered real stone coating solutions,” says Daich. “These are not concrete paints. Each product is made of a selected mix of stone in a specialized bonding polymer. This provides a durable, beautiful finish with proven long-term performance against extreme cold temperatures, soaring heat, UV rays and severe weather conditions.”

Daich Coatings primers and decorative concrete products are available online at Home Hardware, The Home Depot® or online at daichcoatings.com
